Too old to remember. Oh, ok...I was fairly athletic all my life, until about 10 years ago, when I let myself gradually slip into a sedentary lifestyle. Too much work, not enough play. I lifted consistently through my late 30's and had built up a decent strength level - squatting 385 lbs for 20 reps, benching 330 lbs and pulling 535 lbs. I could *never* shed that last layer of fat. Looking back, I obviously never had my diet dialed in; I ate clean, but way, way too much. I thought I had to in order to achieve mass. Anyway, I made the decision to try long distance running, culminating in running the Houston Marathon in '97. I finished it in 3:46, not bad considering I weighed 215 lbs. However, i lost about 20 lbs of muscle and *still* had the fat layer. In retrospect, I think I became disheartened, and gradually stopped working out altogether. Now, I'm back. Along with my cute litte wife, who has always been in pretty good shape and has worked out pretty consistently through the years.
Why I Love It:
I don't, really.
How I Stay Motivated:
Watching my wife, who doesn't miss a workout no matter how tired she is.
Many of my goals are a bit variable; I haven't entered any goals for certain body parts because I just don't know what I'm shooting for with regards to, say, my arm measurements or my chest measurement. I want to hold on to as much muscle as I possibly can while getting down to 15% bodyfat. Thus, I'm not sure what many measurements should be when I hit the bf goal. And, I don't care, at least not right now. I know how to lose weight fast, but I don't want to be tempted by a tendency towards impatience in doing so. A pound every other week or so is fine by me; I will make micro adjustments in my diet to be efficient in losing bodyfat while not sacrificing hard-earned muscle.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 70 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
8%

I started a fitness program over a year ago, and began documenting here in my body blog. From March of '07 to October '07 I went from 288 lbs to 252 lbs, and I had made some significant strength gains. Mostly, I followed a typical bodybuilding diet, tailored some to align the diet...
Oh NO!!!!
No more running... OK, well, plenty of other fun stuff out there to do. Hope you find something you are passionate about. I can't wait until I finish the racing season, I really want to get into some boxing - that sounds fun. How's the 15%bf coming? Wish you luck.
Thank you so much! It has been a rough road, but the fight has been so worth it! I cannot imagine going back now, I've come too far and I'm going to continue to move forward :).
I suggest you check out the 12-week Body for Life program. It really works at getting rid of bodyfat as well as getting you into great shape. It gives you a great nutrition plan along with both weightlifting and cardio routines. My wife (bodyspace: judimax) went from a size 12/14 to a 4/6 and I lost over 50 lbs going from 36 to 10% bodyfat in just 12 weeks with the BFL program. We were both amazed at the results and you may be too. Let us know if you would like more info.
