How I Started:
Part of my college's requirements is taking a general health class. My teacher for the class helped me start lifting to gain strength.
Why I Love It:
Balance, plain and simple. The relaxation I experience after a good training session or lifting session, as well as the zen like feeling after sparring that washes out all doubt in my mind that I am alive.
How I Stay Motivated:
Feeling myself get better, faster, stronger. Seeing the cuts develop and watching myself inherit the warrior culture that my soul belongs to.

This was me at 175 about six months before I started trying to get better. That soda in front of me is a mountain dew, which I can't really stomach more than half a can of anymore.
Not giving up. No matter how embarassed, how stupid, how hurt, how tired, how stressed, how emo, how whatever: Don't give up.
Goal (Long):
Create a martial lifestyle that I can succeed in while maintaining a solid foundation in school.
DA RULES:
No soda.
Train often as possible.
Work Out.
Bike.
Eat Naturally.
Take the stairs.
No matter how embarassed, how stupid, how hurt, how tired, how stressed, how emo, how whatever: Don't give up.
What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Make it count. Don't start just for a bit. Keep it going.

I have been experiencing a rash of depression that I had thought was the onset of...
Hey Jacob,
Thanks for compliments. Down and out this week with a pulled neck, but usually manage to hit weights 3 days a week, cardio 2 to 3, martial arts thrown in 2 or 3 as well. It is consistency and intensity. My diet is pretty clean and learning more and working more on that end. What are you holding in your avatar?

Hope things go well and you quickly find a place to train that keeps you happy and motivated. Do not quit training anything you learned MMA..Proffesor chow and mitosie and the other early kenpo guys were saying "Take what works no mater whare you find it" years before Bruce Lee said it!
I know that must be frustrating for you...& a big inconvenience. But continue practicing what you know! You are still young, & eventually you WILL find the right dojo...stay encouraged, & keep your faith, this is just another stepping stone that will make you stronger, i believe in you bro!
