When I Started:
May, 1981
How I Started:
Arnold. And my older brothers are 9+ years older than am I. I had a lot of distance to make up to prove myself in my eyes against them.
Now I can kick their collective asses [my brothers].
I started with a set of crappy clay in grey plastic weights made by Homelite? if I remember correctly.
I watched "Pumping Iron" with my brothers and I didn't know what cumming was at all. But based on their amount of laughter from Arnold's statement about cumming from doing curls, I knew I had to give that a try.
All I can say/write is I have puked. Sorry for the let down.
Why I Love It:
The ongoing competition I have with myself to do more than I have done.
Second is competition against individuals who have the same view.
How I Stay Motivated:
I know if anything is worth having it takes work, or everyone would have what is for them the best body they can have.
I tell myself the mental portion of wanting to quit or give up is as much of a fairy tale as a Disney film.
I am a firm believer in Arnold's philosophy, "The mind quits before the body".
Working out is a competition I have with myself against my desire to at some time or point during a set or in the week, say to myself that is enough. I can do more tomorrow.
Nope, I can do more NOW, and WILL do more NOW!!!
I am in competition with myself to be the best me there has ever been.
BB Accomplishments:
Right now getting back in shape after my hopefully last lumbar region surgery. Fractured 2 vertebrae and ruptured 4 discs years ago when I played football.
This last surgery was a new technique that involved disc replacements. Now I hope at my age to get my BF% back down to 5-8% range and keep my lean mass at 325+
