IronMikeHouston

Overall Goal:  I finished the MS150 ride and it was brutal. The wind was 15-20mph the second day. The first day was rained out but I rode half way before the rain got too hard. Luckily I had a sister that lived in the town when I gave up.

Fit Status:  I started a program to add muscle mass to my frame.

Motivation Level: 8/10

When I Started:
How I Started:
I have worked out my entire life. Currently I bicycle and go to the gym. I try to do a little running.
Why I Love It:
How I Stay Motivated:
It is a everyday battle (to workout daily) like most other people. I have a demanding job and I try to have exercising on my top 5 priority list of things to do for the day. Also, I do it because I feel better when I exercise. I try to set goals that keep me interested. Half the battle is getting to the gym! Once you are there, then usually you are going to get a good workout!
BB Accomplishments:
None. I really don't intend to compete. I have a very busy work life and it is a battle to get the stuff done that I need to without any additional responsibilities.

Congratulations on overcoming the obstacles in your life to have a positive attitude. There are so many people out there that think they have been dealt a bad hand. Most of the time, their problems aren't really serious problems but either way (the problems being serious or not), people need to determine, how they can conquerer their negative attitude.

She just works so hard it inspires me to hit the gym and work even harder than I normally would. Keep up all the hard work!

Do you monitor your heart rate while doing cardio?
Yes
Do you use a heart rate monitor? Which one?
Yes, a Suunto T6C.
What heart rate do you aim for while doing cardio? Why?
Usually 150 within 2 minutes. I try to keep it between 150-160 but I do get it to 170 at the very end of cardio. I can get it higher but I really need to be motivated!
- Updated Mar 29, 2009 6:44pm

What is your cardio exercise plan?
5-7 hours per week not including lifting weights. That is my goal and I haven't made my goal consistently the last year.
- Updated Feb 14, 2008 6:51pm

What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
Bicycling on the road. I do use cardio machines in the gym during the week because of the availability of time (it gets dark early or or gets too cold)

I have been doing 4 sets of chin ups and 4 sets of pull-ups twice a week.  I rest 90 seconds between sets.  I do the 4 sets of chin ups first (20,16,13 & 10) and then rest.  I then do 4 sets of pull ups (17, 13, 12, 10).  My bicep tendon (at the right elbow) is killing me with all the...

I am so humbled to receive your much, much too complimentary words. I will keep them with me and remember them at those times when I need to fire myself up and take it to the net level. Remember: "It is not more than you can handle. It is merely more than you thought you could."

WELCOME Mike! Thanks 4 the ADD & even more thx 4 the support of the National MS Society. I haven't done the Houston-Austin 150 ride (yet). My last (of 3) was "Bike the Brazos" from Ft.
