Since I was about 15 I've been lifting my own set of dumbells and barbells with little knowledge of what to do and how much to do. In the early months of 2009 I watched Pumping Iron with Arnold Schwarzennegger and was blown away by their incredible physiques, Franco Columbo being my biggest inspiration as he is also a short guy like myself. I started lifting heavier weights until I eventually outgrew my weight set (it only goes up to about 25kg) at the time I was looking to buy an upgrade set, I recieved a brochure/leaflet through the mail about a local gym re-opening with new management. I went and had a look and was hooked just by seeing the machines, I signed up and now here I am.
Why I Love It:
The thought that you could be bigger, stronger, fitter than you were the year before.
How I Stay Motivated:
research other bodybuilders, mostly on the amatuer side. Looking at a professional and trying to persuade myself that I could be that big one day isn't going to happen.
BB Accomplishments:
during my early teenage years I was quite chubby with no interest in sport. Bodybuilding has given me a thrive for challenge and improvement.

What Humble-Beginner Is Up To:
Dec 12, 2009
Humble-Beginnerupdated Motivation Level from 8/10 to 10/10 and said: "Really craving the burn now!"
Diet is such an individual thing as far as being specific... otherwise everyone would be Mr or Mrs Olympia, right?:) My protein is usually constant throughout the year and I will adjust carbs and fats depending on my goals. I always try to eat as many carbs as I can without gaining too much fat and keep fats on the lower end, but may increase them when going low carb precontest. Consistency is key, eat well and often while monitoring your progress, Happy New Year!!
You asked about what kind of protein powder would be best for mass.... In my opinion, real food is by far the best whether you are building or leaning out. Protein powder is great for fast digestion post workout, but I will always have a real food meal about an hour after that. Thats just my two cents from someone who is always learning and trying to improve:) You are looking TOUGH... I cant wait to see how much progress we make in 2010!!
Not bad, kid. Not bad. Gotta cardio-off all this Xmas baking though!! Gald to read you're still at it. Don't be one of those kids who starts something and gives up when it interferes with the GameBoy, hear me? LOL
tnx 4 the add, BIG Sam, keep your goals ever before you, pics and journal/blog to stay focused, my friend. put a pic of where you wanna be where you can see it and bring it on. Peace, Rich
Hey Sam, wow, that is quite an honor that I certainly don't take lightly! I, like you am looking for improvement year to year, as I am nowhere near where I want to be, but appreciating the never ending journey just the same:) I looked over your progress pics and see what dramatic changes you have made in such a short time, AWESOME! You have a great structure and judging by what you have done so far, can do whatever you want in the fitness world:) Fight on and thanks again!!
Now, listen, son. Don't sweat the beginner stuff; being humble is always good. You'll do fine. Hey, just imagine the pics you'll post in five years. Monster stuff, I have no doubt. Keep at it, son.
