When I Started:
1992
How I Started:
I got my first gym membership at a community center when I wanted to get bigger for pee-wee football. I took some time off a few years back but haven't gotten really serious about looking and feeling my best until about three years ago.
Why I Love It:
Nothing gets rid of stress better and I love the attention being in shape gets me
How I Stay Motivated:
I see people who haven't invested anytime in themselves struggle with their health and having difficulty doing routine tasks. I don't want to be in my 50s and not be able to walk up a flight of stairs. Feeling and looking good are a sign of self respect and others will see you as someone they can look up to. I hope to lead by example and encourage others to lead a healthy lifestyle.

What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
Go heavy with forced reps, drop sets and negatives on EVERY set. No wonder everything hurt all of the time. As for nutrition, I learned that chicken wings are not a valuable protein source
Why I like this video: Very well explained use of split squats and lunges, both exercises that are under utilized and often not performed correctly in the gym
With ten weeks until my half-marathon, I decided to check my level of fitness by running a 5k race this morning. I had two reasons for this: first, I wanted to know if all of the increased mileage I had been piling on was paying dividends with improved endurance and better racing times,...

I read your blogs about the 5K progress. Last Sept. I missed 20 minutes by 4 seconds (very frustrating) and I didn't finally break that barrier until my 6th 5K, yesterday. Train steadily and train smartly and you'll get there.
Good Luck with your racing? How do you work on your speed? I would love to get my 5K's consistently around 25. My PR is 25:30 and at the time I was doing speedwork one day a week at the local track. What does your running schedule look like?
Have a good day
Thanks! I don't do anymore races... had tendinitis, pushed it and I was out for 6 mo! (Moral of the story - only time NOT to push it!! lol) Started lifting to get back into shape and loved it so here I am. What do you normally run?
