When I Started:
Sep, 1988
How I Started:
Started working out for high school sports. Continued steadily till my freshman year in college 1991, then on and off since then due to back problems. 3 years ago I decided to get my back taken care of / start taking care of it. I've been at it for almost 2 years straight, learning as I go with a 4 month off period because of graduate school. That break resulted in about 17 lbs of bad weight gain. So I started back up in January, and now am determined to strip the fat off my body once and for all.
Why I Love It:
It's my time during the day. I work out at lunch so it breaks the day up for me. I get to be completely absorbed in something other than work or school, and I love seeing the progress, both in myself and in the amount of weight I move. Working out also gives me an edge playing hockey on the weekends.
How I Stay Motivated:
A picture of my "fat self" from Dec. 26 2008 on my desktop next to two before and after pics from Body for Life.com "Barometers" I made that say "203 or 223" I printed these out and have them in my cubicle, on my dashboard in my car, and on the fridge.
BB Accomplishments:
Nothing major, just continuing on despite the back pain set backs. Returning to ice hockey (my first true love...sorry honey :) after 14 years off due to, well, you wouldn't believe me, but back problems were a part of it too.

Goal (Overall):

Goal (Long):
I've been working out consistently for the past 2 years then grad school came up.I had put on 15-17 pounds in my first semester. We received a Wii for Xmas and I stepped on to the Wii fit and the damn thing called me "obese." I had been kidding myself saying that I was "bulking." The damn toy woke me up a bit. I've been back at it since January and have seen subtle changes and now have the goal of decreasing my body fat to 16% for starters. Once I get there and hold a bit I'll see about going lower. I'd like to be 195 - 200 with 10% fat when it's all said and done. This 26% is dangerous b/c it's all "internal" eg. I don't look like I have 54 lbs of fat on me so it's prolly padding my organs pretty well - not good. Doing this for my little girl, my wife and my ego last.

Getting back at it after tearing the tendon that surrounds my L4 L5 disc. It's still a bit sore, but I've got clearance to work out a bit.

Had a few deaths in the family and did the stress-eat 6pack therapy with family.

I stayed as faithful as I could to my diet even though I wasn't able...
