Overall Goal: Time left in Iraq is short. Bulking phase didn't pan out. Goal at this point is to trim excess fat layers and increase my stamina.

How I Started:
I'm in the Navy currently deployed to Iraq. I live in Norfolk, Virginia. I did some working out when I was in high school. I was a wrestler and it helped to build strength. I also worked out for 6 months on my first Deployment back in 1994. That was the last time I did any weight training prior to starting up out here.
Why I Love It:
I love working out because It gives me more confidence, it builds self esteem, it gives me more energy, it makes me look better, and it generally makes me feel better about myself overall.
How I Stay Motivated:
Looking at others' progress, reading bios and blog entries, seeing results in the mirror.

Goal (Long):
My main goal back in January was to bulk up as much as possible for about 4 months and then to start a cutting phase. Things got very busy here at work and I had to drop the workouts. The bulk didn't happen.
Things are slowing down now, and I have one month before I head back home. My near term plan for now is to get my muscles back in shape, work on my cardio, and trim the excess fat from my midsection and wherever else it's hiding.
I hate the thought of using the goal of "get in shape for the summer", or more commonly amongst deployed military members: "get in shape before going home", but that's pretty much what it's coming down to.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 10 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
8%

I think my favorite is starting with 3 or 4 sets of Standing alternating DB curls, followed by 3 or 4 sets of preacher curls, and finishing off with a few sets of Overhead Cable Curls. This all usually occurs after a good back workout, so my arms are already starting to feel it before I start hitting them directly.I think my favorite is starting with 3 or 4 sets of Standing alternating DB curls, followed by 3 or 4 sets of preacher curls, and finishing off with a few sets of Overhead Cable Curls. What calf workout has worked best for you?
I don't care much for the sitting calf raises, so I take two really heavy dumbells and stand on a platform. I put one foot behind the other's calf, then I do weighted calf raises on one foot. I alternate between heavy sets, and light sets. For the light sets, I do really high repetitions to get a good burn.I don't care much for the sitting calf raises, so I take two really heavy dumbells and stand on a platform. What leg workout has worked best for you?
Five sets of squats, followed by leg curls, leg extensions, and calf raises. Does it every time.
Well, after being out of the gym since early January, I'm just now finally getting back in. Work started getting very busy out here so I was working long hours. Things are slowing down now though. I only have about a month left here in Iraq before I head home.
My workout program is very flexible. I try not to stick to any set routine, and even my days aren't set in stone. The reason for this is because my work schedule fluctuates so much, I never know what I'm going to be doing on any given day. I basically work each body part once a week which gives...
Hey! Yeah I know. I have been gone for a bit. I not only let myself get derailed, I didn’t dish out the encouragement to my friends. I apologize. I know I don’t have to but I have found that my friends help me stay on track and I hope I do you as well. So please forgive me for abandoning you and fill me in on what you have been up to these last couple of months. How are your workouts? Diet? Motivation? What are you looking forward too? Have your goals changed?
I know its not all fun over there. Just stay safe. Glad your getting back to the workouts soon. Sorry about the gym. That is just a minor bump in the road (as long as no one got hurt). Keep me posted. I will pray for you.
Havent heard from you in a long time. How are things? still training? eating as good as possible? Come on details. I am so ready to cheer for your successes.

Hey HKR - the latest pic looks really good. You chest is getting more defined and muscular ... keep it going! And be safe over there. Appriciate all you and your guys are doing. Brian
Don't fret, big man ... if you can get there you once you can ultimately get it to stay :) It'll just take a little bit of time. But you're such a youngster (LOL), you've got LOTs of time to build up that muscle ... and I'm sure you will!
Hey HKR! Thanks for stopping by and your encouragement ... you're the greatest, eh? Thanks for all your doing over there for us too. Hope you enjoyed something of the holidays there. Set some specific time lines with your goals and be relentless. You'll get where you want to be.
