What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
To become informed and gain as much knowledge as possible..the more you know, the better off you will be. Also, take it easy to start. I once had a friend who had never lifted, but came into the weight room trying to shoulder press 50 pound dumbbells..when he could barely get them off the rack. The point here being to start light and work your way up...you most likely will not be as strong as other more experienced individuals. Lift for yourself, not others.To become informed and gain as much knowledge as possible..the more you know, the better off you will be. Also, take it easy to start.
