When I Started:
Jan, 2006
How I Started:
I walked into the gym one day and decided to see how much bigger I could get. I actually started taking martial arts (Tae Kwon Do) the same semester that I started lifting weights, so there was an interesting synergy there.
Why I Love It:
The endorphin rush is great, as well as the feeling that every rep brings be closer to another goal. Every time I walk into the gym or training hall, I think about how that's one more day that someone else decided to take it easy-- and that separates average Joes from those who really want to achieve.
How I Stay Motivated:
I help to teach lower ranking students in my Tae Kwon Do class, and I realize that I'm a role-model for all of them. I want to set an example for my students and friends on how to live and take pride in yourself.
BB Accomplishments:
Putting on 30 pounds in the span of about a year and a half (more than 2/3 of that muscle at one point, haha.)
Also, getting my bodyfat below 10% for the first time after bulking up (not much to some, but that was a great day for me!)
Back when I was working at an Italian restaurant and taking advantage of my employee discount a bit too often -- still, my strength training was at its best during this period.
This is about as flexed as I got, to give you an idea of how much extra weight I was carrying. I suppose a better camera would have helped, but only a little. I needed some work here.
As of this writing, I'm about 163 pounds and around 8% body fat. I would like to be between 170 and 175, with 7% body fat or lower. My goal is to achieve as much of this as possible within the next six months. The important thing is to not compromise my other fitness goals, as I am a competitive martial artist and I want to retain as much speed, flexibility, and coordination as possible while gaining muscle. My time frame might be too strict, but I'll be happy as long as my progress is going in the right direction.
Weight Goal:
I want to GAIN 12 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
7%

What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
Tae Kwon Do -- It's my first love when it comes to martial arts, and kicking people in the face is a lot more exciting than running in circles around a track or riding a bike to nowhere any day!
