How I Started:
matriculated U of Md 1969 weighing less than 150# at 6'1". Left 1978 weighing 210. Joined powerlifting club on campus. Competed and won a few powerlifting contests.
Why I Love It:
it's addictive; great for self-confidence. went on to play football, rugby and wrestling.
How I Stay Motivated:
I liked to see the progress I was making; I'm more attractive and my chances of getting laid were better

What tips would you give to others to help them stay motivated over the long-term?
Have them ask themselves why they started. Perhaps the why changes over time.

What supplements do you take immediately before your workout? Why?
None. Work-outs are meant to put a stress on and (in a small way)damage the muscle cell. The body responds by repairing the cell at night, while we sleep; the result is a larger, stronger muscle cell. The muscle doesn't grow during exercise. Supplements (if I understand your question correctly)won't do you much good, but they will do much good to the guy who sold them to you.None. I figured the gym at work is not going to be packed with guys into body building... there aren't going to be a lot of tank tops and lycra... there won't be a lot of distractions.
