A metaphor to success.
No matter how passionate one is about the sport, fitness can be one of the biggest metaphors of success in your life. It takes time, dedication, patience and hard work. We all knew that already.
So as months .. and months pass.. then years begin to pass. You stop, and in the middle of it all you say "wow, I'm still here, and I'm still at it.". In that moment you really question what else you're capable of. What else can you sink your mind into, over months and years to ultimately achieve a reward for it?
Fitness then can stay a focal point of your life, but also become the backbone that shows and proves to yourself everyday, what you are willing to go through to get out of life what you want. I've created a bond with fitness, and I feel that even on days where I may think I don't want to shine in the fitness world.. it doesn't matter because a pact was made, and the metaphor keeps me going. Once it becomes that for you, once it starts giving you more than just a better physique, you won't be able to stop.

They are called "supplements" for a reason. Nothing wrong with taking advantage of them though.
Fitness is a game of maximizing results, via minimizing error and maximizing resources. Supplements will NEVER be the primary reason someone succeeds. Mind power first, then diet and training, then supps. If you have the money for them, they can only help (assuming they aren't going to agitate a heart condition and are used properly.)

Connecting the dots
Everyone has wants and needs.
If you can bypass having needs met through other people (i.e. significant other) it allows you to search for you role and passion in life.
Once you find it, progress in itself fulfills needs.
And when you create positive change, those around you may and standards are raised.
This spreads like a virus.
You begin to see mankind as one entity.
All of a sudden your small role gives you a reason to love yourself, your path, those around you, and life.
Now your needs are met and you didn't "need" anyone but yourself.
