How I Started:
After my knee went out on me again, I quit running and started to put on weight fast. I didn't like what I had become, or where I was heading. With the help of my physical therapist I was able to get back to where I could run again. My knee started to feel solid again so he suggested lifting as a means to strengthen my knee/legs. I stumbled around the gym for a few months on my own and made some improvement, but I wanted more. Fortunately for me I met a guy (Shawn Paquet) in the gym who has helped me immensly. Shawn got me into High Intensity Training and my strength has really improved. I know I've gained in size but I don't know how much. I need to take some measurements. I'm liking what I see/how I feel so I think it's time to add some mass.
Why I Love It:
I enjoy lifting because of the way it makes me feel on the outside and that improves how I feel on the inside. It makes me feel good to know where I was at less than a year ago and see the difference with where I am at now. Although I still have a long way to go, a small amount of progess is better than decrease.
How I Stay Motivated:
Think of my three kids!!! I want to do this for me, but more so for my kids. If lifting and working out betters my chance of living longer, then I will do it!
My main overall goal is to change myself and my lifestyle to a more fit and healty one for me, but mostly for my kids. I've always been pretty healthy and active but as I hit the mid-30s I started to slow-down and started to gain weight. I always said that when I hit 200 pounds I'd do something about it. Well I hit 200 pounds and didn't like it. I lifted some back in high school but then stopped mainly because I thought I was too small/skinny. BIG MISTAKE!!! If I had kept with it who knows where I would be today. I've had two knee surgeries and that has not helped my situation, but I can't use that as an excuse any longer. Another reason I started lifting again was that my 20 year high school reunion (I can't believe I just typed that!!!) is coming up sometime in Summer 08 and I want to go back and blow the socks off my old classmates. I want to make all the ladies regret letting me slip through their hands.
