I used to be a powerlifter several years ago, and could not believe how I had "let myself go". I decided to get back into shape because I have 3 kids, and I want to active with them. I don't want them to be embarassed by looking out of shape when I take off my shirt.
Why I Love It:
To see improvements in my blood sugar, and the endorphin rush. I feel much healthier, and more energy than ever.
How I Stay Motivated:
When I step foot into the gym, faces light up and people wave. Getting compliments from the young bucks who are impressed by the efforts of an "old timer". My wife could care less about me one way or the other, so when I go to the gym I feel like a rock star!

Some days I feel like I am 28, and some days I feel like I am 68!
When I was 39 years old, I was working in a hospital in NC when I noticed that I felt lousy and I had lost almost 30 lbs for no reason at all. On a whim, I asked one of my fellow nurses to do a finger stick to check my blood sugar. The result was 369 so I made an appointment with my doctor...
I do 30-60 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. My favorite type is the elliptical trainers at Gold's gym. On Sunday morning I try to do 60 minutes straight in the video room.
I do my resistance training 4 days M-T-Th-F. I recently learned that I should be doing my resistance training first, and...
hahah well thank you for the kind and encouraging words. they still need some work but they are getting better! need to stop being lazy and kick my ass in gear!
No No No.. thank you for the add request! I do hope u attack ur goal and rock it out! U are lookin solid... keep it up! Have a rockin week! TRAIN INSANE!!
You have built an impressive foundation. Now you will just have to lean it up. Actually you are fairly lean already, so it shouldn't take to much for you to rip it up. The hardest part is dealing with the strength drop, but the results are worth it. And my strength normally comes back in about 2 - 3weeks.
Daniel, thanks for stopping by and the add. First things first! I have been a powerlifter for a long time, and I know what is being plucked off the ground in that progress pic is a big big number. You definitely need to post that number next to that pic! Been competing Raw myself and hope to get my raw numbers back to my knee wrapped suited days. It is always motivating to see my fellow military/retirees get not just in shape but realyl pack on some serious muscle…at 49 no less!
