The past two years since I became an airline pilot have been a major wakeup call. My schedule is always so crazy and constantly changing that I couldn't get into any exercise routine and found my weight going up and up. I work long hours at a time sitting on my butt in the cockpit and am surrounded by airline snacks and unhealthy food choices in the airports and hotels. I also see a lot of my fellow pilots who are severely out of shape from years of doing the things that I mentioned above.
This past April, my airline uniform pants, which were a size 34 waist (the largest I've ever worn), were starting to get uncomfortably tight. I was pushing 190 lbs at the time. I briefly thought that I should order a larger size pants. I told myself that that was an easy and weak way out and that I should just start exercising again. I used an upcoming family reunion in Myrtle Beach in July and a 10-yr wedding anniversary in Jamaica in Sep as motivation. I started out initially just focused on losing fat, so I ran a lot on the treadmill and did push-ups and crunches. As I lost more and more fat, I started focusing on more strength training to add some muscle to my leaner body. I was so satisfied with the results I was seeing that I even had the confidence to lay out on the all nude beach at the Jamaican resort with my wife. After Jamaica I was determined to keep it going and have really started watching what I eat. Once I did that, I lost about 6-7 more lbs after staying at about 176 lbs for a couple months.
This is the first time in my life that I've really put it all together...cardio, strength training, and eating right. The more I do it, the easier it gets to stick to it. I've also finally found a way to get a workout in almost every day regardless of weather I'm flying, commuting, at home, or at a hotel.
Why I Love It:
I love seeing the results and feeling healthy. I also want to be a role model for my kids and set the right example of living healthy for them to follow as they get older.
How I Stay Motivated:
My motivation comes from seeing the progress that I've made this past year and knowing that I can continue to get better with age. I'm proud of the fact that I'm coming up on 40 and am in the best shape of my life.
BB Accomplishments:
My Abs are the flattest and the most defined that they've been in over 20 years! I'm not done with them yet, though.

This was taken 3 1/2 years ago but was pretty much what I looked like in early 2007 at about 190 lbs.
Well this has been a tough week. I pulled a muscle in my neck after doing a set of dumbbell bench presses almost a week ago. I jerked my head up off the bench attempting to sit up after my set to put the dumbells (which weighed more than I do) down. I immediately felt it in the back of...
I just switched up my workout routine to go from 4 days on followed by a rest day to 5 days on followed by a rest day. The main reason is that I was working two bodyparts each workout but some workouts were starting to get so intense that I didn't have enough energy left to train the...
