When I Started:
Jun, 2005
How I Started:
I couldn't find a dancing partner, so I started boxing. I started working out to enhance my boxing performance. But my first contact with working out was at the age of 13. Anyway, I quit boxing after 4-5 months, and devoted myself to weight training. The chairman of the powerlifting club of the university approached me and asked me to think about powerlifting. At first, I thought he was kidding, or being really cynical about my form, but my training partners encouraged me to go and see what it is like.
Why I Love It:
It's great to conquer yourself. And we have nice people in our gym too. I have great training partners, which helps.
I'm not a bodybuilder but a strength athlete. Every kilo I can lift extra is an accomplishment. And being accepted in the mostly male gym is a mini-accomplishment too.
1) tore my jeans while showing a friend how to do a proper lunge step-up. That must have been my thighs of steel working.
2) First PL-meet: 130/62,5/150 @78.1, kneewraps, belt, no suit or shirt
3) Dutch Champion -82,5kg, 2008.
4) 400m of lunges on the racing track. Insane, yes. Painful, yes. Victory, yes.

It's been two years since I last wrote a blog here. Looking back on 2009, it's been a rowdy year. I started out with the Super Accumulation Program in January, which was an awesome experience. i've learnt so much about me, my body, and training in general in so little time. It took two weeks...
It took me forever (like, 3-4 months!) to recover from "overdieting" when I did AD, so I understand how that feels. I think a couple of weeks of overreaching is a bit smarter way to torcher yourself, anyway. LOL
"Honestly, you don't have the balls to use the advanced training principles I'm about to outline in this article. This training method usually only works with elite, coached athletes — athletes forced into the gym and driven into the ground by a hard-driving international level coach." Heck yeah! I'll have to try that after I'm recovered from my BA surgery. Will be...shoot. Well over a year. Hope I remember it. Can you do the lean away chins? Good lord!
they cool about your grandfather being the strongest guy in his home town. glad you got that gene for strength. How your lifting been, you been growing any size?
the world championships would have been awesome to be at .. if all goes well I hope to be in Vegas for the Mr.O but not sure if I will be able to swing it this year.
