DerekSimon Leg workout today was decent. Finished squats with 405 lbs. and could barely do leg extensions afterwards... that's a good sign, I hope.

Ever since I was in high school where every discussion of weightlifting began with “whad’ya bench?” I’ve wanted to bench press 400 pounds. About a year ago, I came close when I did 395 lbs. (why I chose that weight instead of an even 400 is beyond me). However, that was followed by a fairly serious shoulder injury that prevented me from benching for about six months. In my final essay for the 2013 Transformation Challenge, I made the distinction between dedication and motivation, noting that the latter is overrated because “like the moon, it waxes and wanes.” I opined that dedication is far more important — and today was a great example. Due to a looming deadline, I worked well into the night last night. I was tired and unmotivated as I prepared to work out today. Worse, I felt bloated (an increasing problem) and lethargic.
