When I Started:
Apr, 2003
How I Started:
Walker Runnels AKA: BIG DOGG Wheelchair Bodybuilder Interests: Beautiful women who possess beauty outside and inwardly too (they try to be friendly and nice to everybody) Video games and anime cause i'm a loser of course :), next up are Sports some of which I can do others I only can watch and dream my favorite sports in no real order are boxing, bodybuilding and it's related sports, Wheelchair Bodybuilding, MMA, power lifting, weightlifting, sprinting, and free running, gymnastics and finally strongmen if they make real intense efforts to be ripped and in shape to and not just real big and strong Again I'm obsessively into all things fitness, combat sports or bodybuilding/workout related. Who I’d like to meet: Anyone that likes fitness, bodybuilding/combative sports as much as I do, anybody that's chasing their life dreams and goals with intense passion no matter what, people who won't and I mean absolutely refuse (would rather die) than give on themselves, their dreams and goals in life. Heroes: My Mom, Dad, Myself, close friends and all my family and Jesus other than that lots of people both dead and alive from all walks of life, and on top of that I meet or hear about and even sometimes watch on TV or in real life where it seems like I meet interesting people all the time so it's impossible and unfair to compile a fixed list or name them all again anybody that's chasing their life dreams and goals with intense passion, enthusiasm and self-control and also people who no matter what won't and I mean absolutely refuse (would rather die) than give on themselves, their dreams and goals in life or helping humanity and other people achieve their dreams as well and finally people who won't give up on the world as a whole even though the world sometimes can be an awful place. More about me: Hello my name is Walker the "Big Dogg" Runnels, a Wheelchair Bodybuilder and a Representative on behalf of the Wheelchair sport of Wheelchair bodybuilding and our main site is http://www.wheelchair-bodybuilding.com/ I had/have Spastic CP occurring at birth, with the left side being dominant it's about 80% normal usage on the left and 20% normal usage on the right side. Before answering the real question provided for me on how and why I got started Bodybuilding I have one only other thought I wanted to leave all of you with and that is one of my all time favorite quotes with a quick opinion from me on it Karl Marx once said “The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however is to change it.” And while this is one of my favorite quotes like I said above I personally think he should have added “Change it for the better” just to further drive home the point not that many would pay it much more mind anyway. I got started on my Bodybuilding journey and working out at age 16 on a homegym (Thanks to one of my Aunts and Uncles I got a better, more wheelchair friendly gym now) for the obvious health benefits it gives anyone who does it and even more to someone who’s in my situation with the Spastic C.P. (Stupid C.P.) Another reason I started working out with more serious intent? You guessed it Wheelchair Bodybuilding, the effect all the Wheelchair Bodybuilders have on my desire to train for the sport is unreal, what incredible mindsets with physiques to match and as a bonus they all are very cool and fun to be around and are all my friends and people I look up to both for their Bodybuilding Training, and their outlooks on life, cause I will tell this right now out of all the muscles they flex their hearts will always be the biggest. I know that sounds kind of wimpy to say something like that but it’s true and it’s exactly that kind of vibe I get from all of them that makes me more comfortable and better able to deal with the fact that I am most likely confined to a wheelchair for life and while I don’t think any of us would turn down a chance to get better and get our bodies at 100% and beyond we all have this sport as a passion and a outlet and that is very important and we would like to thank everyone for being fans and supporters, so keep spreading the word and helping us out as we work to help others as well and for being the biggest reason along with all the Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure competiors for making the sport continue to grow, get noticed and our dreams continue to come true. Thanks again everyone from the Big Dogg train hard and take care my fellow brothers and sisters of the iron and lovers of fitness and the many fans of all of it that make it all possible and worthwhile to do everything we do
Why I Love It:
I love everything ! The people, the cheers, the attention (self admitted), friends, family, all the training and of course my fellow Wheelchair bodybuilders and also i have much love for the able bodied Bodybuilding and Figure and Fitness competitors as well all the women are very nice, hot, and sexy and are my favorite part of any show :) I also respect the male competitors for their strength, kindness, (gentle giants I tell you) and dedication. I would also like to thank all my family, friends, and my fellow Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure friends (both wheelchair and walking)for their support, motivation and love. My main Bodybuilding goal as far as my own body goes is that I want to get my now skinny 105lb frame as big, strong and as ripped and lean as I can while getting to and staying at between my goal weights of 122-160 lbs at 4-10% Bodyfat and stay that way (Walking someday or not) for the entirety of my life.
How I Stay Motivated:
Myself, my fellow Wheelchair bodybuilders and also able bodied Fitness, Figure, and Bodybuilding men and women and any person passionate about fitness and working out That's who and what motivates me. I am always coming up with new ways to do exercises and because I discovered Wheelchair Bodybuilding I now feel as if i have a true propose in life and let me tell everybody who reads this something, to feel that way about something makes you feel amazing, almost superhuman. Another one of the ways i stay motivated is by always trying to think of ways to raise awareness and make Wheelchair Bodybuilding and Bodybuilding and it's related sports bigger and better. one of my biggest dreams includes a day where Wheelchair Bodybuilding and Bodybuilding become as commonplace as any other sport so that more people will learn about them and hopefully join in. Competing not their thing? Well to that I say go to a Bodybuilding Show that has a Wheelchair Bodybuilding Division, a lot of them do, however call first though to make sure and watch one then decide, if you still find yourself remaining steadfast in your decision not to take the stage and compete don't worry having conviction is not at all a bad thing it shows your strong willed and you're your own person I really like to see that in my fellow human beings. However if you so desire you can still help us and our sport out a great deal by doing a job no less important than training hard and taking the stage as a competitor and that is being a fan of the sport, supporter of our efforts and again not to sound redundant throughout these words but help us also to raise worldwide awareness about Wheelchair Bodybuilding, you can also help us to spread the word and recruit more fans and competitors even if your not handicapped and don't know anybody that is, everybody can be on the fan and supporter side of things like I said whether their handicapped or not so nobody can get out of it haha, any questions you may have about competing and or ways to show your support for us and our sport please don't be afraid to contact me at my email which is as follows wcbbrepbigdogg@gmail.com a word of warning however it's hard for me to type and so I type very, very slowly so what I have to do is keep my replies very short, but worry not my friends as I will refer you to one of the other Wheelchair Bodybuilders and try to get all who email me some answers to their inquires. The reason why I'm telling you all about my typing issue in advance is so you don't think I'm not excited or passionate about helping a new person, competitor or fan get into our sport cause I live for that as much as I do competing. We Wheelchair Bodybuilders look forward to seeing lots and lots of new faces at the shows, both cheering us on and taking the stage with us and showing the world the results of all your dieting, training, and just general hard work and incredible mindsets. http://www.wheelchair-bodybuilding.com/competing Join us today as a competitor or fan Another one of the ways that I believe we could make Wheelchair Bodybuilding bigger and better is by flooding rehab hospitals/centers nationwide/worldwide with word of mouth and by announcements or posters of some sort because in order to possibly recruit more Wheelchair users to our cause, we have to look where they can be found that sounds a bit callous I know, however finding Wheelchair users who work out and really like bodybuilding and then trying to convince them to compete is not a very easy task at all and besides that if they know right off or pretty soon after (not right after by any means) that sports, causes, and pastimes are out there waiting for them like this to try, give their best efforts, and maybe even someday excel at. Now I’ve never been in the type of situation that carries with it the added weigh, shock, and obstacles of a Spinal Cord Injury to face up to but I think I would still find it very therapeutic to know that things like Wheelchair Bodybuilding existed for me to partake in. Be strongly aware that above all else the message we are trying to convey and let Wheelchair users know with WCBB is that just because they ended up either by birth, sickness, or injury being confined to a wheelchair, their lives are not over, altered and vastly more difficult without a doubt but far from over they just have to adapt, be open minded and become aware of what’s out there, educate themselves on it to a degree and then of course make the choice for theirselves as to whether they want to become a part of it or not. One thing however that I try hard never to do is make others, disabled or not feel forced to do anything because if their efforts are only being fed by someone's desires for them then that person will never live up to their full abilities so even though I'm very, very passionate about these subjects please keep in mind you have to do what’s best for you and no one else. With that said I still strongly encourage you to go check out the Wheelchair Division at a Bodybuilding show before making your final decision. Important goals often come with many reasons why they are labeled as such by both the individuals who are working hard to reach them and by the many supporters behind them who champion their cause and encourage them wholeheartedly to reach for them and achieve but the trouble is there are only so many ways you can state the same kind of message so I apologize for being longwinded, but another reason it’s very important to get more fans and Wheelchair Bodybuilders in our sport so it will grow and become bigger and more awesome than all ever thought possible so that when all we die we can leave behind a well respected sport and legacy for all Wheelchair Bodybuilding competitors and fans hopefully lots more of both by that time so that Wheelchair Bodybuilding will forever have a well built and strong (puns intended) foundation (Including a solid pro division and more sponsored bodybuilders) and most importantly a well known place forever engrained in the worlds of Wheelchair Sports, Bodybuilding and just overall fitness, worlds that we all love so much, think about constantly, and are so thankful to be a part of everyday. We want that place to remain, to grow powerfully and honorably until the day cures come and wheelchairs are no longer needed anymore by anyone and even if someday those remedies surface and for one reason or another some people are not viable candidates for treatment like people who have been hurt for a long time or what have you and I know that I speak for myself as well the many, many wheelchair users worldwide when I say that even if it’s too late for us, when that day comes we will still feel triumphant and be overjoyed it would almost be like having our own chains cut loose to know that some or yet since we are dreaming here an even better scenario would be if nearly all of the monstrous conditions, sicknesses, or injuries that resulted in long term use of a wheelchair were curable. The reason why I've painstakingly typed all these words here is in the hopes that whoever reads this message will show and or pass this on to wheelchair users who love fitness and or being active and who might be looking for a sport or new sport to try.
BB Accomplishments:
Competing in Wheelchair Bodybuilding also known as WCBB and getting to show the world my hard work and getting to be around people and friends who are doing the same thing. Trying along with my friends to get more fans and Wheelchair Bodybuilding competiors in our sport so it will grow and become bigger and more awesome. In the end the words and even actions of others can only do so much to prompt their fellow human beings to strive during their lifetimes for their fullest potential or for that matter to help others try and achieve theirs, at some point they have to take hold of the wheel so to speak and control their own destiny and happiness. Facing those facts I've did my best that being the case I still wish I knew of certain actions I could take or great words to say like a magical spell of words or something to wake that desire up in everyone the world over and make people understand and realize just how powerfully they can live and or inspire others to do so if they wanted to( And yes I do understand that my at times my nearsighted listen to your inner voice logic and you can achive greatness and change the world around you mindset does not always comfortably fit with or appeal to every situation or circumstance in life you either are facing or may face I do not have or claim to have all the answers on the best ways to live, thank goodness I don’t either because I can’t answer that many emails everday haha and believe it or not but I still do battle everyday with past regrets, personal demons, and what not but I try my best everyday to give my best efforts, engery, and moods to the people and things in life I love, listen all I’m saying to you is try and do the same as often as you can but it’s your life and I guess the rest is up to you I just hate to see my fellow human beings waste their lives. You see I’m always trying to improve in all ways and in the facets of life that are important to me and believe me most assuredly when I say I’ll never stop or settle for less than greatness in whatever I pursue throughout my life and then I’ll use that greatness and the influence I gain from it to help people because it is and always shall remain one of my strongest beliefs that while you should never allow yourself to be overly vulnerable, gullible or get taken advantage of you should if you ever find yourself in a position to help people you should try to do so. I hope all of you will think of and be aware of these words and the following quotes to check whithin yourselves from time to time to make sure your not overly slacking off Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities. They vary in their desires to reach their potential." - John Maxwell "If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." - Thomas Edison "A difficult time can be more readily endured if we retain the conviction that our existence holds a purpose, a cause to pursue, a person to love, a goal to achieve." - Anon You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you - Anon And lastly and perhaps most importantly "Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end." - Scott Adams

Goal (Long):

Yet another never-ending goal of mine is to encourage people to make fitness a lifelong, unshakeable part of their daily lives just like breathing whether they are disabled or not be it just one person or millions of people and Im not just about fitness and working out either I also would like to be a positive force in people's lives and inspire them to go after their biggest dreams and goals in life whatever they may be and by my own self admittance I wish I could get everyone in the world to do so or at the very least to try but thats not going to happen with everybody no matter how bad I want it to because they themselves have to want it as well thats the key, and one I cannot turn for others so Ive compromised with myself that even if I can motivate just one out of every thousand people who see me or read my words to spark enough of a internal fire or desire if you will to chase theirs with unwavering boldness, enthusiasm, & persistence of some degree throughout their lives within my lifetime and hopefully also long after my death I'll be a very happy individual.

You are preaching to the choir as I know you are awesome and great, and if I haven't told you that lately, allow me to do so now! I am so sorry to hear about the sinus issues - I hope that will clear up for you, so you can operate at your max efficiency - I know how those things go, so I totally empathize - and thank you for the kind words and good holiday wishes, and I wish the same to you - hope to hear from you soon though :) Here's some extra xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo because you are feeling sick!
