Overall Goal: 2009 Goals: 1 sprint tri, 1 Olympic tri and 1 half Ironman, oh yeah.... It's a challenge and I'm already on slow training building my endurance :)
Fit Status:
I'm at around 9% bf and 136 lbs. (my optimum prior to ramping up on heavier cardio endurance training)
I got started after coming back from a business trip to Tennesse and Alabama at the end of January 2005. I knew my cholesterol was high becuase a few years earlier (in 2001) I had some blood work done for my insurance. My Total Cholesterol was 230 (My bad cholesterol -LDL- was 144). I bought a Fitness Magazine and I started reading it. I started walking one mile a day, every day. I got up to a 4-mile run, and lifting some weights to total 1 hour of exercise 3 to 5 days a week) At the end of 6 months, I had lost 29 lbs and my total cholesterol was down to 178. My LDL (bad cholesterol was 100).(I looked too thin then so I changed my routines...) I also got started because my Doctor and any other Doctor that I know would not prescribe anything to me to lower my cholesterol - I was too young and my total cholesterol was not over 250. (I was dying slowing by clogging my arteries, I thought....)
Why I Love It:
Keeps me strong, motivated and I look and feel healthier..
How I Stay Motivated:
Buying my supplements and vitamins and keeping my total cholesterol below 190 (HDL 68 -good cholesterol- last time I got it checked)....Plus I look much better. I just got new cholesterol results, they're in my blog.
BB Accomplishments:
None yet but I dropped my waist size from 33 inches to 28.5 inches!!

This was taken on one of our trips to Cancun (2004) and I was not doing any exercise at that time. Not a very good picture since it's a scan but I cannot find any other pictures without my shirt off. I was always taking the pictures or I just did not want my pictures taken becuase of my big fat bell ...
This morning I ran 7 miles total, including the warm up, running, HIIT and the cool down periods. This is my secret to build speed and endurance (read the 2nd set of HIIT towards the end). This is in preparation for a Half Ironman in the middle of September 2009.
5X5 Program - 3 Days a week. (Monday, Wednesday & Friday - Monday & Friday are the same workout...)
- I wanted to try something new with a Smith Machine I just bought and this program seems to fit good for me at the moment. I'll change it in a couple of months or even before that.
wow! man! long time no see!!! Good progress... I'm still running and living life in monterrey...it has been a long time since i get on this!!! crazy! have a great and blessed year!
Amilcar, u must be so fit by now! Going good thanx man. Family is well and healthy. My health is up and down, u know me as long as I can lift I am happy. Business is also doing well and yip I am still close to our Lord. Have a GREAT day. G.
Hey Amilcar, I'm doing well. Work keeps me busy for the most part. I think my new exercise routine is good but maybe needs some modification or additional days, something. Have a great week!
Thanks for the response. A co-worker of mine has talked me into training for a 5k later this year. I have never been a runner so this will be something exciting and new for me. I'll stay in touch.
Hey friend. As I am sure you have noticed, I have been off the scene lately. A job change in September, coupled with tendonitis in my right elbow, has kept me out of the gym and off my routine. I am starting back and will need all the support I can muster. Surf by my blog occasionally and check on my progress. If you see progress, let me know. If not, let me have it! Don’t hold back – if I am going to get where I want to be I will need your help. Steve
Merry Christmas Amilcar. Yeah, it really knocks you out to do that. Try to get your heart rate up, and then keep it there for the entire workout. Remember, this is a strength training thing, so build muscle, and burn fat all day long.
... and apparently I am cutting too, so that should work out. Started adding the 3 min cardios interspersed in the workout. really takes the wind out of the sails, you have to push much harder to be able to make the trip to the gym last long enough to be worth it.
Lookin good kid!! Glad to hear that your arm workout is paying off. I finally got back into the gym last week after taking some time off to help with the newborn, fatloss is dropping slowly but I can see changes in the mirror which is always motivating! Keep working those guns brother
Yeah, it must be the salt. Restaurants are nice, but they use salt to get you to come back (it's the most addictive substance known to man). I already lost 4 of the lbs, and I went extremely low carb yesterday, and will do it again tomorrow (can't today- dinner meeting). Success is at the end of a series of attempts.
BB, sounds like those arms are growin. Just be carefull to make sure that u spend equal time on triceps and biceps to ensure a balanced arm look (I made that mistake in the past). Family is doing great thanx. Little Janu is just soooooooooo busy, but very adorable and not really naughty at all. Have a GREAT day...In Christ, Gert
The key word is having fun and thanks to God it was like that! We run our run, but when you see someone in trouble, you give some words of courage, keep walking, don't quit, and when you see someone in real trouble you help! give candy, check signs, and if necessary move them to the shadow, rise their legs, etc. And from time to time, you get words for encouragement keep tapping :)
