My brother received a 110 lb weight set along with a copy of Pumping Iron for a Christmas gift. We both immediately started lifting although we really had no idea of how to properly perform the lifts. As time went on we later got ahold of an Olympic weight set and a decent bench. We both built a pretty good base for teens.
Why I Love It:
I've always enjoyed working out. After over 30 years, I still look forward to the next workout. Even after a bad day at work (there's many) I feel great after a good workout. I really can't say if it's the pump, or what, but lifting is a great stress reliever for me.
How I Stay Motivated:
As I get older, I feel like I have just so much time left to accomplish what I can with weight lifting. When will I start to lower the weight instead of raising it? So far, Im still building and there's no end in site!
BB Accomplishments:
I started competing in 2005 at the age of 42. My first 2 shows were as a middle weight. This year I won my first overall NPC national qualifier as a 197 lb Lt hvy wt.

I will be competing at the 2008 NPC North American Championships in Cleveland, August 30.
Goal (Long):
I started competing in 2005 as a middleweight. At that time I had given myself a goal of one day competing at the national level. I knew that at 5'9" I needed more size to fill out my frame. In 2006 and 2007 I competed as a light heavy weight. It was difficult to make the lt hvy class in 2007 as Ive been steadily adding more mass. Im working hard to bring more mass to the stage and compete as a legitimate heavy weight in August '08. My goal for the North American will be 210 lbs shredded. However, I won't sacrifice conditioning for size. I know I need to be even more cut then I was at my last contest, so if I still come in as a Lt Hvy but have brought up some weak points, that will be ok.
