Cleaner eating without a 'diet'.
I'm one of those people that just absolutely can't live by a 'diet'. There's so much yummy food around me all the time, and I want to eat it! Instead of a planned out diet, instead of strict eating and looking at something delicious and turning away for water and little else, I look for alternatives.
You want that burger? Go for it! Throw it on the grill so the fat runs out of it, use a lettuce leaf instead of a bun, and throw on a little mustard and jalapenos. Yum! What about that BLT? FANTASTIC! Get some brownberry bread, some turkey bacon, some romaine, and a thick slice from a tomato from the farmer's market and toast it. Craving something crunchy? Water chestnuts are awesome alternatives to chips. Something sweet? Slice oranges and lemons and suck on small wedges as a treat instead of candy.
When in doubt? PORTION CONTROL! I may not be able to follow strict eating habits every minute of every day, but I CAN take three or four bites of something and be done with it and then move on to a salad.
There's tons of alternatives, to every single meal. Be it replacing deep fried pork with baked chicken, bacon with turkey bacon, white bread with brownberry bread, eggs with egg whites, potatoes with sweet potatoes, or salt with pepper. No, I may not be the most fantastic when it comes to eating perfectly clean all the time, and I don't believe most the average Janes are, but I do make sure I'm using the most healthy alternative available.
My Supplement Program View My Full Supplement Program
I think supplements are an important part of any workout routine, but just the essentials!
I already take a plethora of pills every day, so I'm never really 'thrilled' to add more. Through a lot of research, and past trial and error, I have found a combination that works great for me!
I take... BCAAs, a multi-vitamin, a fish pill, and calcium pill.
I also take... protein powder and an energy powder.
This gives me the boost I need to get through those intense gym sessions, keeps me from feeling hungry, helps protect my body while lifting weights, and allows my body to burn as much as it can.

I am my best fan.
It took me a long time to realize that my best support system was me.
Part of that system is setting goals, OBTAINABLE AND REASONABLE goals, being able to re-evaluate my situation if I fall short, and push harder if I go beyond.
The largest, and most important, part of my motivation is all mental. Not just pumping myself up for the gym, or getting excited about a goal or a new measurement, or getting psyched to meet my trainer, but my own mental health. I wasn't the happiest person for a long time, and it reflected on everything I thought, said, did, and then began reflecting into the care I took of my body (can you imagine eating a family sized bag of doritos every day and going back for a jar of dip, a box of taquitoes, and just laying on the couch the whole day? this does not a healthy person make).
One day I stopped being sad and decided I wanted to be happy. It was as simple as that! It was the most difficult thing I've ever learned, but once I had that realization it was easy to get up and do something about it. My grandfather once told me something that I now live by.
"Be like a duck swimming in the rain. Let it all hit you, but then let it roll right off your back and under you so you can rise above it." ~ Grampa
