I had actually started out wanting to compete back in 1988 but due to money restraints and divorcing parents it just wasn't going to happen.
Fast Forward... On a cruise two years ago my beautiful husband challenged me saying that if I could get in good enough shape to compete and place he would buy me a new diamond ring for our 10th anniversary I thought he was full of it but he did make good on his promise and I am sporting some pretty nice bling now *lol*
Why I Love It:
Being fit is its own reward. I tend to ascribe to the saying "nothing tastes as good as fit feels" and nothing could be more true.
I know there are thousands of people out there who say they are okay with being over weight and they say they are happy wearing plus size clothing. But I say if that were the truth then the number one selling book on the NY Times list 9 times out of 10 wouldn't be another fad diet book.
How I Stay Motivated:
Once you have competed you wake up every morning and look at your body with the most critical eye. Am I gaining where I want to or where I don't? I try to temper each morning with the thought that any day I'm under 125 pounds is a blessing and that it is through "proper diet" that I am able to maintain that loss, not through starving myself like so many do. As long as I can do a bikini some justice I have no problem getting myself to the gym and eating properly.
BB Accomplishments:
Aside from competing I think that my greatest accomplishment so far is getting through this cervical spinal surgery and the resulting PT with only two major setbacks to date so far. My PT is constantly reminding me that I am only 15 weeks post op but know I am weeks ahead of where someone else would be had I not been in as good of shape as I was pre-surgery. So I know that I am blessed all the way around but am really looking forward to dropping all this fat I have gained (15 pounds yikes!!) having to sit around and not do anything for nearly four months since my sugery. But now I am going to cardio city *lol* and starting my comp diet to get this "crap" off of me!!
Forum Signature:
Life is too short to pump your body full of crap, whether it is crap food, crap supplements or crap pharmaceuticals it doesn't matter, crap is crap and natural is the ONLY way to fly!
Nothing on the planet is better than a protein laced brownie hot from the oven mmmmmmmmmmm.

My present motivation is to heal correctly and completely with the goal of returning to the competition stage next spring.
Goal (Long):
After healing properly, I want to add another 8-10 pounds to my frame and really push hard the remainder of this year. That way in the spring achieving a thick looking compeition weight with bodyfat around 9% will tighten up and rope out my muscularity and hopefully lead to a really successful 2009 season.
I will be working with Josh Jordan of Matrix Training Center to prepare for next year and combined with he and my husbands nutrition know how I should have a GREAT season next year with my hubby right there cheering me on *lol*
Well it has now been exactly 14 weeks since my spinal fusion surgery and I can say with absolute glee that I am 100% stable and the fusion is progressing beautifully according to my surgeon. I have about four weeks left of hands on PT and then I will on an “as needed” basis...
In six weeks! I have a planned C-section date of Sept 15th. Yeah, I expect it'll come up fast! Got a lot going on in my life, we're currently trying to sell our house and will be moving, having a new baby, etc. Guess I should write a blog about all the changes coming up.
Thanks! I'm down to 7 weeks left and I've gained 21 lbs so far so I'm doing good! Probably needless to say, but I'm quite ready to get my pre-preggo body back! What have you been up to? What's up with the healing correctly and completely thing?
Hi Tyra, just stopping by to see how your healing is coming along. I just read your blog so I am glad to see that things are well considering all that you have been through. Keep doing what you're doing. -Jeff
Thanks. My clothes are fitting tighter in my butt. I think I am working my legs too heavy and need to clean up my diet. It really is not bad. No sweets but I am going to have to adjust the amount of food I eat and type.
That's great news Tyra. The relief you are now feeling must be amazing. I bet you are seriously "chomping at the bit" to get back in the gym! Keep us all in the loop with how you are doing. -Jeff
