When I Started:
Jul, 2008
How I Started:
I lost some weight in 2000 at university but soon put it all back on with poor food choices, stress and lack of exercise. My weight crept back up to the heaviest it's been and seeing photos of myself over the summer has again motivated me to achieve the body I always wanted.
This time it seems easier because of this great website. I've learnt that weight training is such an important tool in determining what our bodies look and feel like. I have learnt how to eat right. Now I know what I need to do to get where I want to be and I'm excited about doing it!
Why I Love It:
I love feeling stronger. I love the time I have alone with my music and the weights. I love feeling energized at the end of a work out. I love seeing new muscles.
How I Stay Motivated:
I look at mine and other people's progress pictures. I browse BB nearly every day and I get inspired every time.
Fat mess! I am too ashamed to put my fat face on here! I can't believe I was walking around like that.
190lbs and somewhere over 30% bf. These pictures were the biggest motivation to change.
Get rid of the fat and see what's underneath. Feel strong and fit.
Goal (Long):
Get rid of excess fat, to be able to look and feel good in clothes. To feel proud of my body and my health.
I want to be stronger and feel capable of doing anything.
You should be really proud of the progress you have made. Yes, injuries can make progress slow but let yourself heal so that you can come back strong. You'll run the risk of reinjury if you come back too soon. Good luck!
i also injured my shoulder last month when i started P90X , but i fought thru the pain , the best i could and after the third week it doesn't even bother me any more, i felt the pain in my shoulder when i did bicep curls, hope u get better , just do ur best and forget the rest
yep, I've had rotator cuff injuries on both sides. It really does suck, and the recovery process is painfully slow. The first time I had this, spending 5-10 mins warming up with the rotator cuffs, icing and physiotherapy worked. I also had to stop some shoulder workouts. The second time I went with the cortisone injection and the recovery took half the time. The good news is that even though it takes a while, you WILL recover fully.
Not sure how you injured it, but my understanding of active recovery means exercising the injury gently. Maybe don't do the shoulder press on a machine, use light dumbells until you feel it is stronger. Also icing the area helps. Just keeping the area in motion & not inactive helps and strengthening the surrounding muscles (back, chest, bi's, tri's) without using too much of the injured area will help strengthen it.
I've had shoulder pain for quite some time and find the shoulder press the worst on it. Not sure what I did to it, could just be the rotator cuff, but I am working on "active recovery" trying to use it but not go too hard at it. You'll get there, you've come a very long way! Best of luck!
