When I was a kid, I was overweight. I went on a dangerous diet and ran four miles a day, losing 30 pounds. I didn't gain the weight back, so I thought there was no reason to exercise. Then in college, I noticed that size is not everything: I had absolutely no muscle tone. I lived across the street from Bally Total Fitness, and began doing cardio several days a week. I had friends who were involved in bodybuilding and figure competitions, and was inspired by their physiques. I first began weight training like a man, but thanks to bodybuilding.com, fitness magazines and books, I have tailored my own program that gives me the results I need. I have now been an avid runner and weightlifter for six years.
Why I Love It:
I love how I feel while I'm lifting or running. After an intense workout, I've got an extra spring in my step for the rest of the day. I also love thinking that my body looks good- at 5'3", I put on weight easily, especially in my tummy. If my tummy is looking flat, I feel confident! I love the health benefits of exercise, too. I rarely get sick, and hope to keep it that way.
How I Stay Motivated:
As I said, I gain weight easily. If I let myself go off the wagon for awhile, the guilt will soon bring me back on, and the passion will keep me there.
If I don't feel like working out one day, I just try to remember: The hardest step is the first one out the door!
BB Accomplishments:
My brother was with me when I decided to max out on bench press. We loaded the bar with two 45 lb. plates, and several guys crowded around. It was obvious that they did not believe that a little girl could lift this much weight. It was great to see the looks on their faces when I lifted it 4 times!

I want to be faster, leaner, more energetic, and healthier. I am doing a great job of making my runs, eating right, and squeezing in strength training sessions at least 3 times a week. However, I am a social smoker! I want to quit smoking and cut processed foods and soda out of my diet. I am about halfway to reaching my goals. I drink very little soda and eat fruits and veggies every day. I have lost 8 pounds in the past three months, and have gotten a lot faster.
I am in the third week of my quest to achieve six-pack abs before my 24th birthday, which is at the end of March. I've been doing an outstanding job on my workouts, but I'm having a really difficult time DIETING!
At first it was easy to simply substitute healthier foods...
I like to constantly change things up so that my body doesn't get used to anything. I'm currently training for a half-marathon in March.
I used to do a five-day split, but have seen my muscles lengthen and lean out by doing a full-body strength session every other day.

Nice work on the 135 lb bench for 4 reps!! Don't jinx yourself by saying you never get sick b/c a supervirus may come along and get you, haha. Strep got me last week after 3 years illness free. Get that 6 pack!!
