When I was in middle school I watched a World's Strongest Man marathon on ESPN, and was inspired to be BIG. Being half Filipino, I've always been the shortest amongst my peers and realized that I probably will always be on the short side. At 13, I found out that my middle school had an weight room that was open after school. I was the only one in there everyday, training hard. In High School I got into heavy power lifting because of football. Going into University I lifted off and on, and only gained about 20% more strength, while getting quite fat. I plan on joining the Navy soon so I have to lose a bit of fat, and get into better shape overall while hopefully maintaining most of my muscle mass.
Why I Love It:
I love lifting because I love knowing that I am strong and knowing that it's due to the hard work and suffering I've put in. It's also helped me in my personal battle against severe depression, the agony of a hard lift is my catharsis.
How I Stay Motivated:
I appreciate every comment about my muscularity or strength. When nicknames are garnered from it, such as "The Baby Rhino", "The Animal","Bob The Beast", and "The Mini-Hulk." Or when people ask me to flex for them so they can feel and appreciate the size of my muscles. It's vain but it motivates me.
