I have played sports my whole life, but didn't get into weight lifting until I started college. I went to school on near the beach so I felt like everyone had to go to the gym. I only worked out when I had spare time, but had always been really thin and found it really hard to gain any weight. I would take months off at a time up until about 2 years ago. About 2 years ago, after graduating college, I realized that personal fitness was a lifetime decision. I have been working out 4-6 days per week for the last 2 years.
Why I Love It:
I love working out, because I feel like it is my time to relax and de-stress from work. I have also changed my diet over the last year and am amazed and how much that has changed my workouts and my body. I also love working out simply, because of the results I have been achieving. Overall I am more confident that I used to be and overall I have a better outlook on life.
How I Stay Motivated:
I have always been very motivated when it comes to anything I do so that really hasn't been much of a problem. It is also good to have a few gym buddies that get on you when you don't show up when you are supposed to. I set goals for myself over periods of time and that may I can make sure that I do not plateau in my performance.
BB Accomplishments:
I would not call myself a bodybuilder at all, but I have made some accomplishments. I tried gaining weight for years, but was never able to, because when I stopped working out I would lose all of my muscle mass and also my weight. Over the last 2 years I have been able to gain a substantial amount of weight, but none of it has been in my waist like most people tend to. I am just happy that I am finally able to maintain a good weight while I continue to get stronger.
What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
I had a barbell drop on my chest during an incline press and it bruised straight across my whole chest. The bar slipped out of my hand when I was trying to adjust my grip in mid-air (not a good idea). Luckily nothing broke so I laid low for a few days until the bruise went away.I had a barbell drop on my chest during an incline press and it bruised straight across my whole chest. What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Trying to lift too much weight or trying to lift without a spotter. Also, it is bad to start lifting before your muscles are warmed up. I always suggest riding a bike or using the treadmill before getting started. Jumping jacks, jumping rope, etc. will help you get warmed up also.Trying to lift too much weight or trying to lift without a spotter. What is the most dangerous weightlifting exercise? Why?
For me it is incline benching or shoulder presses. I have very bad shoulders from a torn rotator cuff in the past and some volleyball injuries. When lifting anything above your head it is always good to have a spotter, even if it is just to help lift the bar off the rack so your back and shoulders do have to support that immediate weight. For me it is incline benching or shoulder presses.
