Junior high sports - football in particular. My dad was the coach, so I always had somebody at home pushing me to work out and get stronger/faster. When got into high school - dad took the high school football job. He was very instrumental in my physical development - pushing me in the weight room.
I was lucky enough to be able to play college football (NAIA), and worked out accordingly. I was always trying to get bigger (I played linebacker), so I never paid much attention to what I ate, as long as it was a lot of food. I worked out a lot, so it didn't slow me down too much - I was able to get faster and bigger.
When I graduated from college (2003), the eating caught up with me, so I started running. Eventually, my body got bigger and bigger. I'd go in waves of healthy eating and working out, but I'd go in longer waves of eating like crap and not working out. By my wedding (June 2005) I was in the worst shape of my life.
I've decided to make it a lifestyle these days. My goal is to get down to below 10% bodyfat - to see that 6-pack that's been hiding there all my life. I want to get stronger and leaner. Its no race - if I am consistent, I'll reach my goals. I'm in it for the long haul.
Why I Love It:
I love seeing my body change. I love being healthy, feeling good. I love being able to run over 5 miles. I love buying a smaller size of jeans and t-shirts. I love feeling good after a meal instead of like slob.
How I Stay Motivated:
Seeing myself change is a huge motivation. Knowing what I can achieve and just the thought of getting there is motivating.
Probably the biggest motivation is my family history of illness - specifically high blood pressure and diabetes. I'd like to be around for a while.
BB Accomplishments:
My biggest accomplishments have probably been my blood pressure and blood sugar control. In high school/college, I always high fairly high blood pressure, and I was slightly hypoglycemic. Since living a healthy lifestyle - I've been perfect in both areas any time I've been tested.
Looking better and better is just a nice by-product.

This is when I was in just about the worse shape of my life. I weighed in at 224 lbs.
Currently doing a Body-for-Life 12-week challenge. I've done different workouts in the past, and Body-for-Life is what works best for me for a lifestyle-type.
My current challenge started on 9/3/07 and will end 11/25/07
Monday: Upper Body
Tuesday: HIIT Cardio
Wednesday: ...
Thanks for swinging by the journal and offering some encouragement. Looks like you've been keeping consistent on your goals. Good luck in taking it to the next level.
Hi Brian---just saw your name and photos on the transformation thread--I think we're about the only people from OKC! Best of luck in the contest--judging from your results already, you'll do great! Oh, and I saw that you're a youth pastor here in town--what church? My hubby and I go to LifeChurch.tv
you know for the amount of time I have been on here I think you are the only person who realised what my name meant!!! Or perhaps cared! I couldnt think of anything else!
