Get your eating on track and monitor your calories. Don't become carb-phobic or fat-phobic, both have their roles. Take regular weight measurements and adjust your diet/activity levels according to the change or lack thereof.
Push your body and it will reward you. Strive to progress in all aspects of performance and the aesthetics will follow (so long as the diet matches the goal). Best of luck, thanks for your kind comment.
Absolutely man; in high school i coached my 273lb friend down to his current weight of about 180.
At the most basic level, what you must do is simple: put in 100% effort as it will take a great deal of work to turn your body around.
A tad more specifically, you should prioritize lifting with very regular and frequent cardio sessions. Don't be too afraid to "lose muscle" as the liability is minimal for you and the primary goal is just to get down to healthy bodyweight.
