I've been going to the gym since my freshman year in college (Fall 2001). From Fall 2001 to Spring 2006 I weighed 140lbs and had no significant gains at all. I've was always a very skinny kid. I began seriously lifting in March (2006) after some encouragement from some bodybuilding friends of mine. I'm now hooked.
Why I Love It:
It's a personal and experimental exploration of the mind and body. Discipline is the key. Training and dieting has become a way for me to relieve stress, gain confidence, and most importantly, prove to myself that it's possible to achieve any goal with perseverance and passion. I'm able to make my own hours and I'm never told I have to show up for a practice, I just do. I have to push myself to succeed and rely on my own forms of discipline. This is a sport of isolation, in a sense. I know I'm able to go out with friends and party, but I choose to sacrifice these temptations in order to complete another day that will take me one more step towards my goal. This is usually hard for people to understand and I don't blame them. Nobody can truly understand unless they also dive into this lifestyle 110%. Nonetheless, I've found bodybuilding to be an on-going physical and mental improvement of self, and I'm happy to have found it.
How I Stay Motivated:
Contests, people that don't understand this sport and resent it. I love it.
BB Accomplishments:
Dieting is an accomplishment in itself. I want Skittles NOW.

Description: I don't really like this video, but I like to track progress. This was from my first show ever. At 2:11 you can see my conditioning. The lighting was aweful at the show and the camera being totally zoomed out didn't help. I came in 3rd (beat by two guys over 30) in novice lightweight. I was pretty well conditioned considering it was my first show, but a little flat. Legs needed work. Chest needed work.

Very enjoyable blog posts. Some funny - others motivating. Good writing all around. I'm curious what you do at your regular job? Your co-workers sound particularly judgemental and hostile. Could you bring in a cooler and keep it at your desk? That's what I started doing -- my co-workers a -cool, but I was self conscious of my constant trips to the kitchen.
Keep up the good work and good luck with your competitions.
Yeah....it was definitely a pleasure being on the stage with you. The next year should be interesting. You've got a big frame so you bulking should make for a sick physique. It's wierd not prepping...I'm still trying to adjust. But I plan to make some big improvements this off-season. Let's definitely train if/when your upstate. 8453090860. Peace brother!
