When I Started:
Jun, 1975
How I Started:
I started lifting many years ago when my daughter was two. She is all grown up now. And in great shape herself! I started lifting at home then. My focus was tone and strengthen and improve flexibility. Young and couldn't afford a gym membership. I later moved to a gym and never left.
Why I Love It:
The results of weight training are the fastest of any sport and also they carry over to any sport I love...namely running, cycling, skiing. The list grows! Those are my top three.
How I Stay Motivated:
Motivation can be hard some times. Life happens, tough times happen. Injuries happen. But we get through things through prayer, focus and maintaining a positive attitude. Life is blessing. When I remember that in the end, it is up to me to chose to get through things with an upbeat attitude or not...that motivates me. When I realize that I can walk, talk, see and understand things...I am blessed and I have no excuse. When I do a road race and someone passes me in a wheelchair...well, what says go for it more than that? At the end of a 150 mile ride for MS one time, a child who had MS hung the finishing medal on me and said "Thank you so much for doing this for me"...well...need I say more?
BB Accomplishments:
I have competed in pageants and placed in the top three in the past and won a swimsuit competition once. I am a former NFL cheerleader..back in the 80's. I have completed four marathons, several century rides and many many smaller races. Would love to do some things in a masters division in figure competition one day soon. Just say no to aging! :-)
To drop 20 pounds and to lower my body fat to below 15%.
Goal (Long):
I really would like to get my mile time back down to 7:30 and below. Have run a half marathon this year at 2:17. Goal for the next one is to beat 2:00...then lower it from there. Have a 5K coming up. I want to win in my age group. Coming back from injuries so stepping up slowly. Goal is to get back in peak performance condition...with my weight training and with my running. And yes, I believe the two can work together. I want to achieve this to feel better physically, to maintain a positive, fit lifestyle.
Placed 8th out of 43 in my race this past weekend...slowly gaining my speed back. Up two pound this week...odd...I think it's water retention...haven't really been eating bad...will see how the rest of the week goes...need some minor hip and back adjustments to get back to moving a little...
