When I Started:
How I Started:
...Let's see, when I was in high school my friend and I would workout at the Army/Airforce base (Ft. Lewis/Mcchord , and go eat bean burritos at Taco Bell immediately afterwards...didn't really get into fantastic shape doing that...I can't imagine why...lol!
Then when I went to college, I started running, I used it as a stress reliever and did it about 6 days a week..I lost about 25 lbs in 3 months easily and ate a ton of food (didn't know anything about eating "clean" then, so I ate as healthy as possible in the cafeteria)...but never did any strength training at all.....I had been a member of a gym for as long as I could remember, usually only to use cardio equipment though...
But now, after struggling the past 5+ years with extra weight that just won't budge, I decided to step it up and add weighlifting to my exercise plan, after seeing the transformations here on BootySpace...oops, I mean Bodyspace...I decided it was time for me to transform too!
Why I Love It:
It makes the impossible possible and changes your life. I feel really good after a workout, like I accomplished something and can be proud of myself for the day. My self respect grows each time I leave the gym dripping with sweat, knowing I busted my a#*...
How I Stay Motivated:
Looking at other's before and after pic's and reading their stories. Seeing the amazing body transformations here is very motivating to me!
Also seeing the progress that others are making motivates me to get off the couch and get to the gym when I don't feel like going :)
BB Accomplishments:
Nov 2008--I'm starting to get traps! My first visible muscle :)
March 2009--feel comfortable enough with how my arms look to wear sleeveless shirts finally!
July 2009--got my first "you look like you workout" comment from a stranger...
Sept 2009--inspired someone else to begin their own fitness journey because they liked how my body looked..the biggest compliment I've received so far!
Oct 2009-While working out was asked if I was a "bodybuilder" by someone in the gym because he said I looked "cut up"..as of this month I've been lifting for one year now and I guess it shows!! :) Now THIS is the biggest compliment I've received!!...
Wow I hate looking at this pic, but you can see the progress so I'm posting it. I weighed between 184-187 here and had been that size for about 3 years...I was not loving life like this!
taken after a workout...I was hoping to see some chest muscle development but not much progress, really REALLY need to get diet in check... :(
It's in my heart, it's in my mind, I'm ready for the challenge, I've set my sights...
Goal (Long):
My body weight has yo-yo'ed my entire life. I want to step it up and not just be content with being a certain size number, but get toned and trade some fat for muscle. I have always wanted to have toned, muscular arms but haven't put forth the effort to get them until now.
Also-I was motivated by some of the transormations on this site before I joined it, and I would be thrilled if my progress motivated someone else that way :) :)
stumbling onto one of her blogs one night is what pushed me to give weight lifting a try...and it's what lead me to Bodybuilding.com...her bare fact, "no nonsense" perspective on diet choices and working out were exactly what I needed to hear...I just thought people like her had the "genetic gift" of muscle and a fit body and really didn't have to do much to keep it...her blogs erased that thinking and educated me on the work that goes in and what it really takes...and I am grateful :)
when I saw the way she changed her body in her progress pics, I was truly inspired and motivated...hers was one of the first profiles I saw on Bodyspace and she looked to me as if she somehow improved upon her GENETICS or something thru weightlifting/diet!!...she proves that you CAN have the body you want, at any age...WOW is all I can say...she is unstoppable, and who wouldn't admire THAT?
Went to check out a different gym yesterday...I had heard this one was supposed to be better than the one I normally go to because it's an "Andre Agassi" one...(24 hr fitness) ...wow what a disapointment...it seemed a lot smaller than my "old" one that I usually work...
Thanks for the link. I have done a variation of those before; lying completely on side with knees bent and starting with weight out to the side/front and palm down raising up and ending with palm facing the wall (if that makes any sense). Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the blog comment. Yes, you're right that KP is an angel sent to me from above - no question about it. She's my soul mate, and she knows that I feel this way about her.
Once all 22 45 lb plates (yup, 22) are loaded on the damned thing, it looks pretty imposing. Once the weight is on your legs and you can move it up, not so much. The biggest part of the workout is my wife is my training partner and we alternate sets. Her max working weight is 410 (8 45's and 2 25's). We move a lot of weight loading and unloading.
