my goal: Gain Muscle

Still working on shedding the BF down to 10%. Added the goal of lifting 225 on the bench press since it is one of my weakest exercises. Also need to add muscle mass but after I have my BF in control.

Starting to put more focus on chest. Have seen some progress but not as much as I would like to see.

Background

When I Started: Nov 2007
HOW I STARTED:

I decided that I was sick of being thin and out of shape. My body fat was hovering around 21% and I had no definition. I lifted weights off and on but never anything serious. After I was hired into my current company which offered free access to their company fitness center I started lifting weights more seriously. It came at a good time too. Soon after my wife became pregnant with our first child. Unfortunately he died at birth from a severe birth defect. Without having a release like working out, I might not have gotten though this time. I want to see how far I can go to pack on the pounds (hopefully muscle)and gain in self-esteem.

WHY I LOVE IT:

Its just me and the weights. No excuses. The pump I get from lifting and the energy and self esteem I achieve by going to the gym can't be beat. Plus its the best way to release stress.

Ramblings on the V Bar Pull Up, Drag Curl, and the Forearm Workout

Posted in Training  :  Dec 28, 2010 9:50pm
I have been reading up some of the exercises I haven't done in awhile or those I've never done before (and there are a lot of them out there).  The two that caught my eye this week was the V-bar pull up and the drag curl.  Why the V-bar pull up?  Because I suck at pull ups.  I've been working on inproving my pll up for about a year now and have seen very little improvement.  At our gym we have the machine that gives assisting weight for the pull up and I am pretty dependent on this weight to complete more than 2 or 3 reps.  So even though I know I should...

Why am I doing this?

Posted in Training  :  Dec 28, 2010 9:50pm
So I've decided to give blogging a shot with this entry.  I usually keep my thoughts about my workouts to myself but since a few of my friends have shown some interest in getting back into shape, I thought it might be beneficial for them to see my random thoughts on any particular day about something that I may have noticed when I worked out.  If any of you out there want to read what I write, that's great, just remember that I'm doing this more to verbalize something I may have noticed.  Suggestions, comments, and opposing views are always welcome just keep it nice.  Thank...
