Bought P90 and started working out at home. Started watching what I was eating and liked the way I felt a lot better.
I used to get mirgraine headaches all the time and since I quit drinking soda and working out I haven't had one for a long time.
I also was having trouble keeping up with my kids which motivated me to get back into shape. I didn't like the idea of being the fat dad. Plus, I have a beautiful wife who looks great and I want her to feel the same way. :) I like hiking with my family and want to lead the way.. not hold everyone up. I want to hike the "narrows" once my kids get a bit older.
I have now finished doing P90 and bought P90x and now looking at getting a personal trainer and hitting the gym.
Why I Love It:
At first I didn't like it. I could barely do 10 pushups. I got sore and I felt like going back to my old habits. Somewhere along the way I have started realising that this is a life style change. You have to really want to make this a part of you and quit looking short term. I really like the changes and the feeling of being able to do the activities that I enjoy doing.
It also has it's own challenges that you find along the way as you find out what your body can do and how you can change it. It is a great life lesson. You get back what you put into it.
How I Stay Motivated:
I get excited when I can wear clothes that I couldn't fit into before. I get pumped when I hit a new personal record. It's about like anything else, the hardest part is getting up and just starting. Once i get going I am there to do it and I feel great having finished it.
It's almost like when I went skydiving. I knew I just had to make the first jump, gravity took care of the rest. Once I lift that first weight my body starts to get charged and I try to hit new personal goals.
I used to be the skinny guy. I weighed about 115 pounds when I got married. For a long time I couldn't gain weight. Somewhere around 30 years old that switched and I put on a lot of weight. I am currently 190 pounds and am going to lose it. I want to be a able to complete Power 90 and move on to Power 90x. Stay with the program for 1 year and then look at the results. I want to be 175 with 10-12% bodyfat.
All I can say is WOW. To be able to push that kind of weight around for her size is amazing. It almost seems unreal. I like her obvious dedication at such a young age as well, you don't often see that.
He has found the Fountain of Youth!! I think anyone who looks at him and his outlook will be inspired. I like the thought of me being able to transform my own body at my young age of 39! No excuses. He proves that you can do it.
What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
I lifted light weights throughout Jr. High and swam through High School. I think the mistake I often made was not using enough weight. I was soooo skinny back then. I weighed about 120 lbs at my best. I almost didn't get into the Airforce because I needed to be 123 for my size. I lifted light weights throughout Jr. High and swam through High School. What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Keep with it. It takes time. I have only begun to realize that. I have been doing P90 for 3 months now and am enjoying it, but you have to keep the focus going and keep going after it. The results will come. Keep with it. It takes time. I have only begun to realize that. I feel it... I am not sure what I did differently, but this morning when I got up and went down to workout doing Plyometrics I was pumped. I got moving and decided to really go for it.
After jumping around for a bit and really making a goal of touching the ceiling on every jump...
I'm doing okay. I've had a bit of a set back the last 4 weeks. I volunteer at a raptor rehab center and a hawk grabbed a hold of my hand for a few minutes with it's claw - so i wasn't able to lift weights for about 2 weeks because of the internal bruising from the puncture wounds....THEN I did spend the next weeks getting back into my routine when I blew out my left shoulder and neck muscles....I've been out now for another week. I guess my body is telling me to slow down, right? :o)
Man, I am loaded down with work for School and ministry! Haven't had the chance to blog lately! My workouts have not been so great since they are rushed, but I am getting up early this week to get better workouts in! Keep me and my family in your prayers! How are you?
Good for you! Progress doesnt always move as fast as we'd like it to, but every small step is one in the right direction. I'm 2wks out from my next show..I cant wait! SO EXCITED!!!!
hi mate "salems lot" a scary one as i recall. regarding catching up on sleep.i got 3 hours worth last night! too much work at the mo,just got home now and am fractured!thanks for the blog comment.
The house selling timing has little to do with the current market and a lot to do with the plans for the adjacent train tracks. A foreclosure would be a good option for us to buy though. We haven't started looking for that, but it's a place to start.
hello mate, just read yer blog from yesterday. interseting reading.not sure why your wife is like that but have to agree with al,crab, brad etc.my wife likes that i am lifting, and you are correct in the things you said to her,no doubt she will come round when she sees the results.good luck and enjoy it,its great.
Thanks, but I think the loss was due more to a more accurate measuring system than actual loss. :-) I had been using my scales before, and I think the number was way inflated. I bought calipers today and this is the measure using them. I might have really lost 1-2% in the last month or so. Going forward, I should be able to report more accurate numbers, though!
My grip gave out on the 3rd rep of the first set. The next two sets I used lifting straps. I try to do all I can before I use the straps to help my grip strength increase.
its a bit tricky to keep posting i know,i like to read all the others then dont do one myself! things are good, busy week,up and down training! loads of work today and tonight, back tomorrow.looking for more weight on deadlifts, gulp!! have a good one mate.
Thanks Andy.
