Is it due to the war in Iraq i.e. I might get deployed there? What if I join a unit that doesn't get deployed overseas?

I was contemplating joining the military.
Can you advise me as to whether it's a good option. If so, which service should I join. Should I join now, or after college? Can I join after one year or two years of college?

As-salaam wa alaykum. Initially I wanted to be a lawyer, not sure if I still want to pursue that plan. But right now my plan is to complete a degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering. How was your political science major? Did you enjoy it? Has it helped you prepare for law in any way?
