When I Started:
Oct, 2006
How I Started:
I had lifted regularly in my 20s for a few years but stopped, with no good reason. I started doing high intensity rowing on a machine late '06 and liked the potential of muscle development so much that I decided to resume free weights.
Why I Love It:
I now feel stronger and healthier than ever before in my life and certainly am in better shape than most people I know my age. This is despite a second occurrence of cancer and related health challenges I'm facing for the foreseeable future. Lifting gives me the confidence to weather that storm.
How I Stay Motivated:
I think about how skinny and weak I would be if I didn't work out. The fact that I've faced cancer twice in my life already motivates me all the more to rise to the challenge my medical history has presented. Despite everything, I aim to be the strongest I can be.
BB Accomplishments:
My workout routine is very important and I'm proud to have been able to stick to it no matter what other demands are being made of my time. After a couple of decades of false starts, I've now managed to make this more than a chore: it's now a lifestyle, one that won't take a backseat to anything, even medical problems.

On leg day, I do the following: 4 sets of 15 reps seated bb calf raises followed by 4 sets of 15 reps standing bb calf raises. I sometimes finish off with 3 sets of 12 reps one-handed db reverse calf raises to hit the tibialis anterior. My incisions still cause some pain, this a month after surgery. So I'm giving myself a day off between each workout so as not to aggravate things. Nevertheless, each workout is better than the one before: more weight, more reps, better feeling of accomplishment.
I lived in Porto Alegre for a little over a year. I lived near the corner of Princesa Isabel and Joao Pessoa, near the centro da cidade, and on Morro Santana. I still have some friends there.
Glad I can help inspire or motivate, Alex. As a former total pencilneck, it's been a real uphill battle gaining mass, but with a lot of perseverance, it can eventually pay off. I'm a long way off from being where I want to be, so I have long way to go, but thank you so much for the nice compliment. It really helps.
I know what you are saying. I eat every 2-1/2 - 3 hours and my last meal is at 9:00 at night. By then it is like I am full and I can't take anymore! LOL!
Hi Alex. I do hear that from time to time and cannot really understand why. I'm simply doing what I've always done and I don't see that as being insperational, but thanks anyway. ;)
Hi Alex..thanks for responding...yup..I've been here all my life and it's a great place to live..(with the exception of car insurance and property taxes..) Anyway, thanks for saying hi...btw, I'm in Keyport in Monmouth Cnty...
