Background

When I Started: Jul 2008
HOW I STARTED:

I've been active all my life. Just switched my interest from swimming to triathlons and figure competitions in 2008. I'm planning on competing in the NANBF, NPC, and Fitness America this year.

WHY I LOVE IT:

I love looking and feeling strong and buying new clothes! I also love hitting new PRs and seeing guys jaws drop when I pick up 45 lb dbs at the gym. lol

I find I MUST train for something specific. I can't just train for the sake of training or to not gain weight. I need a specific goal and date to shoot for, whether it's a 5K, a tri, or figure competition.

How Much Is Your Past Haunting You?


I don't care who you are or what your background is; behind ever athlete is a person who is motivated by something from their past. Answer: You can't!


Granted, nobody has actually ASKED me that verbatim, but that is essentially the underlying theme of questions I get from people 3-4 times per week. I’ll give people very basic advice (“Lay off the booze, don’t eat anything that comes frozen in a box, and only hit the perimeter of the grocery store [fresh veggies, fruit, and meat]. Watch the dairy and the sugar and move 30 minutes a day.” )


People turn up their nose and go “Oh. Well, I don’t want to do that” or “I don’t have time for that.”

               This winter has been particularly atrocious for me in terms of staying healthy. Granted, I basically live in the tundra (aka, Minnesota), where we spend 6 months out of the year cooped up indoors because it sucks outside.
