Roswell High Attended 1987 to 1991 Roswell, New Mexico United States
When I Started:
Jul, 1987
How I Started:
I originally got started when I joined my HS football team. I was a runt at 112lbs. Then, I decided football wasn't for me but being an athlete was. So, I joined the wrestling team. I got really lean and cut in wrestling but not big. The world of high school wrestling it rife with unhealthy weight management practices. So, I got it into my head that I was just going to be a skinny small frame guy all of my life. I graduated at 125lbs with a lot of bad training habits.
I got into martial arts in college, to stay in shape, karate, taikwondo, muy-thai. I even placed second at a full contact tourney. Still only weighed about 130. Graduated college and got flabby, FAST! Back to the gym. I made so much progress, that my fiancee at the time started getting jealous and even coerced me out of the gym. Left the fiancee and went to grad school. Started making fantastic gains, but not enough time to truly commit. Got a real job and was back to square one, or one and a half. Met a very supportive woman and started to work out again. Got married remolded the house and had a kid. Started over again and this is hopefully my final try. I'm 36 now and I really want to get a little bigger, to a) be a good role model for my kids, and b) not get easily broken when I get back into karate.
Why I Love It:
It's been a lifelong dream to get a muscular physique. One that conveys power. Every time I work out I can see progress toward that goal. I get a little bigger and a little stronger.
It is also very relaxing a meditative for me. It forces me to concentrate on myself, and it burns off a lot of stress. It keeps me energetic, and I swear it makes me feel 10 years younger.
How I Stay Motivated:
I talk to friends and realize I'm not the only one needing motivation. So, we motivate each other. I also look at my daughter remember that a)she needs a healthy role model and b)I'll be 50 when she's 15.
BB Accomplishments:
I've never won any competitions. I have gained about 35lbs of lean muscle since HS and I freaked a few people out at my class reunion. :-) I think my biggest accomplishment is not having given up.
It occurred to me, when my daughter was born. I would be 50 when she was 15. So, if I'm going to be any kind of role model I need to stay in as good a shape as possible by then. Oldsuperman embodies that concept and Ideal for me.

I like protein bars because A) I have sweet tooth and these are a great proxy for candy bars, and B) I don't have the stomach volumeĀ or time to eat the amount of high protein foods I need. So, Protein bars...
