I joined the Navy at age 20 and weighed in at 185 lbs. Over the course of the next 8 years I gained 85 lbs bringing that weight up to a miserable 270lbs. I had a 48 inch waist and would get winded just walking up a flight of stairs. I did all the fad diets, had bets with my wife to try and motivate me to lose the weight but nothing worked. I didn't realize then how miserable and unhappy I really was. My life was spent watching TV while eating potato chips. There were the late night fast food runs where I would eat the equivalent of three meals. I drank soda like it was going out of style. I could go through a 12 pack in a day. I was killing my self slowly. It had to stop. So I finally told myself I am going to make a change in the way I live. I knew from previous battles that fad diets do not work. I had to change my entire lifestyle including how I ate and worked out. I educated myself in nutrition and exercise and put this to work for me. In 4 months I went from 270lbs to 202lbs. The reaction from others who know me couldn't believe the change. It was hard to recognize me. My wife would joke that she felt like she was cheating on me with the new me.
Why I Love It:
Working out and now getting into bodybuilding have brought so many good things into my life. I feel like I am able to live my life instead of sitting there watching it pass by. I am never really stress out because I put so much into my workouts. I love the fact that I can be an example to others in the battle of losing weight and living healthier. I also was suffering from high blood pressure. That is gone. My doctor told me I was also pre-diabetic. Not an issue anymore. Needless to say I pretty much live to workout. Now I want to be an example to others on what educating and making healthier choices can do.
How I Stay Motivated:
I always set goals and push myself to reach them no matter what. I know how it feels to be that much overweight and I never want to feel that way again. I am now also my command's fitness leader and need to continue to set the example for others that are in the same place I used to be. I have a great wife that supports my new found life style and encourages me to reach my goals.
BB Accomplishments:
Lost a little bit of weight.

This was me at my worst before I decided to get back in shape. 270lbs and 38%BF
What supplements do you take immediately before your workout? Why?
Superpump 250 from Gaspari because I really feel a good burst of energy from it and always seem to get a great pump

What do you do before your workout to get motivated and energized?
Sometimes will listen to music. Other times some videos such as UFC and football hits. Sometimes just watching the videos on here can get me pumped up.
Just found out that my wife and I will be having a baby boy! I would have loved to have a little girl but something about having a boy has really got me pumped up. Maybe it's the thought of passing my knowledge on to him that will help him excel in sports. Knowledge that I didn't know...
Thanks for the add! What an accomplishment losing all that weight! My grandfather was a Captain in the Navy. He is well known at the Academy. Capt Wm S Busik. :)
We made it to the third round. I couldn't hit anything in that last game and our big guys were nullified by their big guys so...I'll be getting ready for the next season here soon.
I am taking this year off. I want to move up a weight class in 2009. So Maybe mid 2009. Thanks for asking. Hope you recover soon from your injury! Wish you the best at reaching your goals.
