When I Started:
Jun, 2006
How I Started:
I starting working out when I was 14 to get ready for track season. When that was over I asked my coach what I should do to stay in shape during the offseason. He suggested martial arts. I went to a karate class a few weeks later and never looked back. After five years of training five days per week, I became the 31st blackbelt in my school, which has been around for over 35 years. That was five years ago and no one has achieved blackbelt since.
After I moved cross country I couldn't find a martial arts school I was interested in, so I took up Olympic Weightlifting. I have been doing it for about a year and a half now, but I tore a tendon/ligament in my elbow at my last competition and am still recovering. That means a lot of squats...
Why I Love It:
Working out is absolutely the best stress relief, but it also gives me a tremendous sense of accomplishment and increases my confidence. I don't care that my legs are big whenever I get a PR in the back squat. :-)
How I Stay Motivated:
I'm a personal trainer. I have to walk the talk!
BB Accomplishments:
I don't know that I'm accomplished enough to call them "major accomplishments", but my best snatch is 51kg (Oct 2007), my best clean and jerk is 63kg (Oct 2007), and my best set of 4 in the back squat is 95kg (Dec. 2007). (I've never tried more weight).
I want to qualify for nationals at my next competition (total at least 122kg).
Goal (Long):
I have to snatch about 55kg and clean and jerk about 67kg to qualify, but I'm not sure when my next competition is because my elbow is still busted. Whenever I go back, though, the weights better feel light, because I've been doing back squats almost every other day since Oct 27th!
So I was in the gym the other day training one of my clients and couldn't help but over hear a lady complaining to her trainer that her hands hurt from the lat pull down, to which her trainer responded that she might want to get gloves. The lady laughed and said, "Well, we're not...
Hey you. Very impressive snatch, c&j back squats. I'm sure that if you tried more you wouldn't have any problem :D Leave a msg in my journal and I'll rep you :D
